One of the most important and enjoyable aspects of my job (which never seems like a job!), is that together with my incredible VSP Dental team I have the privilege of providing patients with information so they can make choices that are right for them. And for an increasing number of my patients, a dental solution that really excites them is porcelain veneers.
What Are Porcelain Veneers?
Porcelain veneers – which are sometimes called dental porcelain laminates or dental veneers – are extremely thin, custom-made shells of tooth-colored material that cover the front surface of teeth.
What Are The Benefits Of Porcelain Veneers?
The key benefit of porcelain veneers is that they significantly – and in many cases, dramatically – improve the color, shape, size or length of a tooth (or teeth), and therefore improve overall appearance. For example, many of our patients choose porcelain veneers to fix discolored teeth, misaligned teeth, gaps between teeth, and chipped or broken teeth.
At the same time, porcelain veneers are very strong. As such, they provide lasting resilience that is similar to natural tooth enamel. As noted by Animated-Teeth.com, porcelain veneers last 10-15+ years. In fact, a study of patients who opted for porcelain veneers found that 73% were still in place and “doing their job” more than 15 years after being installed!
How Much Do Porcelain Veneers Cost?
The cost of getting porcelain veneers depends on the unique needs of each patient. Generally, the cost range is between $925 and $2500 per tooth. However, as noted above, porcelain veneers are designed to last for over a decade. It’s definitely not something that patients have to pay for year after year!
How Long Does It Take To Get Dental Veneers?
Again, the answer to this question depends on the unique needs and circumstances of each patient. Generally, it takes about 1-2 weeks for us to get porcelain veneers back from the lab (which are custom-molded and fitted for each patient).
What Are Lumineers®?
Lumineers are a kind of porcelain veneer (i.e. a brand of porcelain veneer). The key advantages of Lumineers is that that they require minimal preparation, and are completely reversible. Many of our patients choose Lumineers and are delighted with the results!
Are Porcelain Veneers Painful To Get?
No! One of the best things about porcelain veneers is, as mentioned, they’re extremely thin. As such, they can be bonded directly to the surface of a tooth. There is no need to trim the tooth back first. And there’s no drilling (and as such no anesthetic) required, either.
